1st Peter 3:15b “always being prepared to make a defense [give an answer] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

Your questions, doubts, and skepticism are welcome here.  We believe that a person who is willing to ask good questions deserves honest and good answers.  While we will try to answer some of the most common questions or objections to the Christian faith, we realize that some of you might have very specific questions that need a fuller answer.  For those of you who do not find an answer on New City Church’s webpage you can either email Pastor TJ or check out one of the helpful links below.

reasons for god_wide_t_nvCommon Questions or Objections to the Christian faith:

1. I don’t believe in God.  Have you considered the following arguments for the existence of God?

Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
The universe had a beginning.
Therefore, the universe has a cause.

If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist.
Objective moral values and duties do exist.
Therefore, God exists.

2. I don’t believe that Jesus resurrected from the grave. Have you considered the following evidence?

I. Jesus’ burial is reported in extremely early, independent sources: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, & 1st Corinthians.
II. The first eyewitnesses were not the men but the women. Since in the first century the testimony of women was not considered reliable and not admissible in legal hearings it is rather unlikely that this detail would have been fabricated.
III. The location of the tomb was well-known.
IV. The tomb was empty. If the body of Jesus was still in the tomb, the authorities could have simply presented it as evidence against the preaching of the apostles that Jesus had resurrected from the grave.
V. The list of eyewitnesses in 1st Corinthians 15:1-8. Jesus appeared to more than 500 eyewitnesses.
